It looks amazing even just being a pixel art game. Now imagine something similar to Secret of Mana or LTTP but done in that hand drawn animation style. People would heap praise on a game like that. Especially if it took Secret of Mana style gameplay and added different twists. There could also be plenty of humor and references to other games. Nothing that would get a copyright lawsuit, but subtle nods to characters from other games.Ī really really cool concept would be to make a fusion game - where Secret of Mana action combat meets Chrono Trigger menu battles. Like say - there's these two different worlds, one is the Action Combat world. Everybody attacks by just walking up and hitting things. All the enemies have red triangles above them. Then there's the other world, which is all Menu / Turn Based. The enemies all have blue triangles above them. Cuphead stayed close to classic 30s cartoons like Popeye or Felix the Cat, but Enchanted Portals looks more modern at times, especially the background that has a house with a satellite dish. Those enemies behave differently and walking up to them triggers a change to a Battle Screen like in a Final Fantasy game. Cuphead has been a smash success since its release, even garnering an animated Netflix show starring Cuphead and his brother Mugman. Nevertheless, many liked it and tried to focus on completion.Īlthough I think Enchanted Portals looks more like Cuphead than it does (at least some originalities are worth mentioning), it's worth noting that the game looks pretty good anyway. The game’s animations and music were considered a large part. They expected some people to dislike the game, but not so much hate, and that had an impact on them. The creators said Cuphead was a great inspiration for them, and they wanted to do something similar, but respect the original work. Xixo consists of two people, a programmer-director and an artist-composer, who asked Polygon about the negative reactions. The Enchanted Portals-Cuphead Controversy refers to a series of critical comparisons between the 2017 video game Cuphead and the upcoming video game Enchanted Portals. The "Forward Love / Hate" slider tilted spectacularly to the negative side, about three times as unpleasant as desired. Many have noted the similarities in animation and gameplay styles, leading many to accuse Portals of copying ideas from Cuphead. The developers of Enchanted Portals have defended their game, calling the similarities intentional. The gameplay here seems to be about shooting and dodging bosses, but it caused more aversion because it used exactly the same cartoon style, animation, and music as Cuphead. What happened to Enchanted Portals 2 years ago a trailer came out for Enchanted Portals, a Cuphead 'inspired' game. News Kickstarter For Cuphead-Style Enchanted Portals Is Delayed Following Publisher Interest 'We will be delaying it indefinitely while we sort all of this out' Enchanted Portals caused quite. According to the story, two sorcerer's apprentices inadvertently open a portal, which then sucks them in and forces them to defeat all the main characters in turn. After its fail on getting its funding on Kickstarter, they said that if they didnt reach their goal they would still find a way to fund the game. There seems to be nothing wrong with the game yet, but then the gameplay starts … which reminds me so much of Studio MDHR's game that at first glance it harmonizes smoothly with the add-on or sequel. Well, Xixo Games Studio helped cross the line when they released a trailer for their upcoming game called Enchanted Portals days ago, and the audience told them spectacularly that they wanted to emulate Cuphead so prominently. An interesting question about the video game industry is what is considered awesome imitation and what is simply brainstorming, since it is a highly iterative medium saturated with sequels.
